The Adoption Law in Colombia

The Colombian Civil Code is based on traditional
ideas which maintain than concepts such as paternity and filiation can
only be based on blood-ties, and that adoptive paternity can only be
recognised if it imitates as closely as possible a biological
relationship.
Adoption is giving the status of a legitimate son to one who was not
born into it. It is not accepted that any one can be adopted into the
status of a natural (extramarital) child. Adoption is the creation of a
family relationship between adopter and adopted child. It is referred to
as a civil family relationship.
